Band der Woche: My Own Ghost

Aus dem beschaulichen Luxemburg kommt unser aktueller Import: My Own Ghost. Zur Zeit ist ein Videoclip und die Planung ihrer April-Tour in vollem Gange. Sängerin Julie, in Kindertagen bekennender Robin-Hood-Fan, war so nett und hat unsere Fragen beantwortet.

Who is behind My Own Ghost?
My Own Ghost are five musicians, Joe (Bass), David (Guitar), Fred (Guitar), Michael (Drums) and myself, Julie (Vocals).

If you had to put your music into a drawer and print a label on it, what would it say?
We would say it’s rock music, with some heavy guitar riffs, catchy melodies with a twist, and lyrics that leave room for interpretation.

Forget about genres for a second – My Own Ghost’s music sounds like …?
As we have quite a few songwriters in our band, and as every single bandmember has a different musical background, there’s a great diversity in our songs. But at a guess, our biggest influences might be The Cure, Muse, HIM, Placebo, Paramore, Bring me the Horizon, Asking Alexandria, Led Zeppelin, Metallica, The Who…

Which sort of mood produces the best songs?
I can only speak for myself, and my favourite place to write songs is in the car, while I’m driving, and if I’m in a really bad mood, pissed off, upset, sad,… these are the moments where my best ideas come from.

Which instrument will surely NEVER be heard on a My Own Ghost-album?
Honestly, we could not say, as we refuse to limit ourselves in the creative process. Every song requests different melodies and ideas, so if someday we think a song asks for a bagpipe, well, we’ll just go for it.

Which record would you want to listen to when you leave the bathroom in the morning, while the beautiful girl /handsome guy from last night is still in your bed?
That’s quite a cheesy qestion. That depends on the girl or guy, and if I’d want them to stay or leave.

The Fairy-Godmother pops up in front of you and grants you a wish. What do you wish for?
From a musical point of view, I’d wish for My Own Ghost to stay together and for musical success. That we get the opportunity to write many more songs, to release a third, fourth,… album to play great concerts and to never lose that passion and love for music we share.

No alcohol is no solution either. What booze combination will definitely dissolve all your troubles and issues?

I’d never say no to a good drink. I’m really into rhum, so a good rhum would make me happy, or, if I’d like something lighter, I’d go for a cider.

What shows you that someone is a true friend?
A true friend is someone who still puts up with you even at your worst, and who’s not afraid to tell you the truth, even though he’d risk the fight of a lifetime with you.

Who was the hero of your childhood?
I was a big fan of the Robin Hood movie by Walt Disney, I would want to watch it at least once a day. The fox Robin Hood was my biggest hero and I think I even had a little crush on him.

What is the most embarrassing/surprising record in your CD-shelf?
A while ago, I’ve eliminated all and every proof, and we’ll never talk about it again

What’s next? Tour? Studio? Vacation? Something completely different?
This year is quite exciting, as we’re releasing our second album in April. On January 28th we participate at the Olensfest Battles in Belgium and in February we have a few concerts in the UK. At the moment we’re working on the videoclip for our first single, we’re planning quite a big tour for april, and we’ve been selected to perform at the first round of the FemMe battles in the Netherlands.
