Who is behind Phantom Elite?
Behind Phantom Elite is our commander-in-chief, advisor and all round nice guy Sander Gommans, whom you might now from After Forever. Although Sander is not an active member in the band in the sense that he doesn’t get up on stage with us, he is one of the core songwriters. Besides Sander there’s Brazilian powerhouse singer Marina La Torraca, guitarists and cosmic duo Goof Veelen (that’s me!) and Ted Wouters, drummer/destroyer of drumsticks Eelco van der Meer, bass player and the guy with possibly the most beautiful hair ever Siebe Sijpkens and of course the wonderful Mr. Koen Stam on keys.

If you had to put your music into a drawer and print a label on it, what would it say?
Progressive Melodic Female Fronted Death Metal with a hint of old school Rock ’n Roll pizzazz.

Forget about genres for a second – Phantom Elite’s music sounds like …?
The definition of beauty.

Which sort of mood produces the best songs?
Depends which kind of song we want to write: some songs are written whilst intoxicated, some were written in a serious mood but for me personally I write the most aggressive stuff when I’m totally zen and not in an angry mood at all.

Which instrument will surely NEVER be heard on a Phantom Elite-album?
Although I’m a firm believer that everything will be better if it has banjo on it, I’m afraid that I have to leave my trusty ol‘ 5 string at home for the recording of our potential second album. Which is a shame, of course.

Which record would you want to listen to when you leave the bathroom in the morning, while the beautiful girl from last night is still in your bed?
For the past three years I’ve been waking up next to the most beautiful girl in the world so it depends what mood we’re both in; it could be reggae, it could be old school rock ’n roll or even music from the best band ever, Phantom Elite of course, haha. I did hear Ted usually wakes up to the theme of Downton Abbey.

The Fairy Godmother pops up in front of you and grants you a wish. What do you wish for?
The power to get an ice cold glass of Taksi (which is arguably the best fruit drink ever) whenever I choose.

No alcohol is no solution either. What booze combination will definitely dissolve all your troubles and issues?
White Russian all the way (Kahlua, Vodka and cream with a touch of cinnamon if I’m in a dangerous mood)! As an Ordained Dudeism Priest, I can only support the easy going, peaceful and all things ‚dude‘. Dudeism is a real thing, look it up!

What shows you that someone is a true friend?
I’ll be your friend for as long as you like if you buy me a beer, haha.

Who was the hero of your childhood?
Gene Simmons of KISS, by far. Fire breathing, spitting blood, what’s not to love as an 8 year old?!

What is the most embarrassing/surprising record in your CD-shelf?
Surprising: I’m a huge country and bluegrass fan so you might find some fiddlin‘ banjer gems in my record collection.
Embarrassing: I once bought a Lady Gaga CD to see what all the fuss was about. Still waiting to get my 20 bucks back.

What’s next? Tour? Studio? Vacation? Something completely different?
We’ve just completed the recordings of our debut album and we have our first European tour this December, so our focus is on getting our show as super ballistic super sonic tight as we possibly can.
