Skalmold-Merki

Who is behind Skálmöld?
Six nice guys from Iceland who love music. We decided we wanted to write an album, heavy metal album and people loved it. We´ve never looked back and here we are with our third studio album!

If you had to put your music into a drawer and print a label on it, what would it say?
Music. It´s that simple, isn´t it? Maybe Heavy Metal? Or as Lemmy says: ,,It´s only Rock ’n‘ Roll!” Record company people like to categorize music, but I think it´s not right to do so, this is just music and music should be heard, not categorized, you can miss some great music, if you decide not to listen to “classical” music or “folk” music, just listen to music and decide for yourself what you like regardless of categories!

How would you describe the sound of Skálmöld to a deaf person?
Watch “Lord of the Rings” and other adventures movies, watch “Vikings” and imagine music … the music you hear in your head is the best music ever!

Which sort of panic inspires the best songs?
Panic? More like emotion right? I´m inspired by everything that moves me, be it music I hear or by what I see or how I feel. Panic is not an option, you can´t loose control over yourself.

Which instrument will surely NEVER be heard on a Skálmöld-album?
Triangle – fuck that!!!

Which record would you want to listen to when you leave the bathroom in the morning, while the beautiful girl from last night is still in your bed?
Crises by Mike Oldfield! Oldfield is a genious. I love listening to his music.

Which song would you be proud of, had you written it?
,,The white Cliffs of Dover” sung by Vera Lynn. Oh, and I´d be pretty damn proud had I written ,,Lili Marlene”!

No alcohol is surely NOT the answer – after which combination of booze will all your problems have dissolved?
I like wine, red and white, but I´m always happy with Jack Daniels!

What shows you that someone is a true friend?
A visit. Nobody fucking visits anybody anymore. My friends visit and we have a coffee, some of my best friends also call regularly, that´s nice during this stupid Facebook and Instagram age!

Who was the hero of your childhood?
Ritchie Blackmore. The greatest guitarist of all time! A fucking maestro – guitar god!

Are we alone out there?
Oh, no, we are not!

What’s next? Tour? Studio? Vacation? Something completely different?
European tour until mid december, then a few days off over the holidays, then we have some shows back home in Iceland and a few festivals around Europe. Some more touring and then back to the studio again – you can´t stop, can you?
