How did the project come into being?
Your Enemy started last winter. We felt that we needed to do something with our creative sides together. Our passion for music and the emotions that we express in our music and lyrics is what comes out as Your Enemy. As we have the same feeling for how we want our music to sound, it felt completely natural to start a band together.

Can you tell us a few things about the connection between you two and your journey into music?
We are quick-thinking and understand each other without actually having to say anything to each other. We know what the other is thinking before the other has even begun to express it. And one thing: We have a great fondness for Mario Kart, and also other Mario games.

If you had to describe your music in terms other than music, what would you say?
It’s like a sexy slap that you can’t get enough of.

Forget about genres for a second – Your Enemy`s music sounds like …
The kind of music you want to listen to when you drive a fast car in the dark.

What are you looking for in music?
Inspiration and sharing our stories. The kind that makes something happen inside of you. A reaction.

What are your first musical memories?
Viva: Some of my first memories of music are probably when dad played his favorite records on the lp player. A lot of my taste in music comes from my father.
Carl: One strong memory was hearing Depeche Mode – Speak & Spell for the first time. That album changed everything for me.

What is sound to you?
Something that engages all your senses both physically and mentally.

Which person, artist, or incident inspired you when you first started making music?
Alan Wilder (Depeche Mode) hands down. Later on Al Jourgensen and also the new wave of electronic music that has exploded the last few years.

What impact do your surroundings have on your music?
We do come up with ideas when listening to other bands. And also the sounds in the environment. You can accidentally hear a rhythm or a melody in your every day life.

Which sort of mood produces the best song?
Actually, the more we are in the studio the more ideas come to our minds.

How does the birth of a new composition happen for you? How does your compositional process work?
Often first with a drum beat or a bassline. Then we build up from that. And also when the vocals are recorded. Then we really get the structure of the songs.

What is the most surprising record on your CD-/Vinyl-shelf?
Carl listens to Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Roxette and ABBA. Viva is into the boy and girl bands from the 90’s. We both also like cheesy songs from the 80’s.

Which instrument will surely NEVER be heard on a Your Enemy track?
None. We have no rules.

What’s next for you? What are you most looking forward to?
We will release out debut album early 2024. We are very excited about it. Hopefully we will play concerts to promote the album next year.
